Your WEBCT account is automatically set up after you register. It takes about 2 days for this to happen.  If you cannot register (e.g., tuition waiver situation), contact me and I can help you out.

  1. Calendar: Probably the Most useful and important link.  It tells you what and when something is due.
  2. Grade flow Chart: This will serve as a means to see how much an assignment is worth
  3. Syllabus: Self Explanatory
  4. Mail: Also Self Explanatory
  5. General Discussion: You will spend a lot of time here. Check it out.
  6. Quizzes and Exams: Start with the Quiz titled "trial." Experiment with the buttons and familiarize yourself with the format.
  7. Grades!: Once we get some assignments completed, I'll update this page.
  8. My activity: I'm not sure if you will find this usful or not, but it lets you track your activity.
  9. class blog: This was originally set up to act as a conduit for the class. I don't think it's that helpful and will be deleting it shortly. Or at least I'll disconnect it from WEBCT.
  10. Drop Down menu: Handy for quick navigation.

General Discussion page

Green Circles:  Try clicking on it to see what it does. It should hide or reveal the particular menu or thread.

Red Circle: Handy when you don’t want to re-read previously read items.  Currently, “All” is selected.  I usually select “Unread,” and then I am sure to re-mark something as “unread” (See the black circle) if I want to come back to it.

Blue Circle: this is a matter of preference, but I think if “Threaded” is Selected, things are much more organized.  Currently, Threaded is selected.

Please note the button above the red circle titled “compose message.”  Please do not use this button.  There may be a situation where you may indeed compose a message, but it should be rare.  Check with me first.

Probably the most easy thing to keep our discussion pages organized is to select “Reply,” noted by the pink circle. By replying to a post, you guarantee that your message is organzied and connected to the thread. Threaded topics are so much easier to read and enjoy.

Quiz and Exam Page

As for quizzes, I recommend that you change the menu (indicated below by the red circle) to ‘all quizzes and surveys that are available,’ and then select ‘Go.’

When you move your mouse cursor over the word trial, it should become underlined, as it is now in the green circle. Go ahead and click on it.  You should then see the following page:

Take a moment to read what is on this page, as it will change from quiz to quiz, and from exam to exam.  The trial quiz is no big deal, but when you want to click on the button to begin the quiz, or exam, please be aware that you should be prepared.  Exams are only 90 minutes long, and once you hit the button to begin it, the clock starts and you cannot stop it.

You should attempt to take the trial quiz, which will confirm for you whether you have a popup blocker or other technical issues that may prevent you from seeing the quiz or exam.  If you have troubles with a popup blocker or other firewall settings, you should check this website: http://www.virtualcollege.org/resource/WebCT/webct_Index.htm  or if that doesn’t help, contact the people at Distance Learning at distance@sccd.ctc.edu .
