Hello,
Here's short video message by me for an Introductory Business
class DSL
or Cable.
Not something I'm used to doing, but it was fun. At least it gives you a chance
to see me and hear my voice.
This is my own short biography and I hope to read each of your
biographies on the student profiles page. I've been teaching Introductory Business, Human
Relations, Human Resource Management and Career Planning Courses at community colleges for over twenty years. After a brief stint of teaching junior high school, I
returned to graduate school and completed a Masters Degree while holding a teaching
assistantship at Central Washington University. After completing my Masters, I spent
several years in a doctoral program/graduate assistantship at Florida State U. then taught
briefly in Human Relations at the University of Illinois, Urbana before returning to
Seattle.
In addition to teaching, I've worked on 100 % Commission as a
Personnel Recruiter from 1977-1997 then ran my own one man recruiting business
from 1997-2002. I
guess that qualifies me as a risk taker, so understand how you might be
feeling, if you're contemplating changes in your own life by continuing your education, or
as a person returning to school.
Both careers have been satisfying and kept me
busy, but lately I have limited myself to teaching which gives me more time to
pursue other interests. (And occasionally teach those quarters with 30 hours of
classes on multiple campuses!) However, I found the time and energy to remodel (I can do everything but
braze copper!) an older home in Northeast Seattle and turn it into a comfortable (and paid
off) home/duplex. Most of my tenants have been University students so I've enjoyed
continued interactions with young individuals on the home front, as well as in my academic
life. I've been able to put my business knowledge to practical use to enhance my own
security and hope to share much of that knowledge with all of you.
I maintain close relations with family and love to travel. So far, I've
been to parts of Europe, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, most places in the USA and Hawaii and look
forward to more traveling in the future.
I thoroughly enjoy my face to face interactions with students, but this
new technology is also interesting to me so have changed and grown with the times, as I
believe each of you is doing or you wouldn't be adventurously trying this new format for
learning. So Welcome Aboard! Let's all learn together, from one another!
Jim
