Canada Lynx (Lynx canadensis)

Kingdom: Animalia    Class: Mammalia   Order: Carnivora     Family: Felidae

HABITAT ; Throughout forests across Canada , Alaska , and the northern United States.

It has been listed as threatened because of habitat loss, & because it is trapped for its' fur .

There are not many estimates of total population numbers , though the International Species Information Service lists 70 worldwide, with 34 being in the U.S.

Canadian Lynx primarily eat the snowshoe hare , and therefore, their population fluctuates with the number available of this hare.

In the United States, plans for conserving this majestic cat include conserving the core ecological areas of the animal and retaining a sufficient amount of the cat in case of any event. Because habitat loss is a big factor, the National Forest Land and Resource Plans and the Bureau of Land management have created the Lynx Conservation Agreement , to keep timber management away from key habitat areas of the lynx and snowshoe hare, primarily in Washington.
