| I have prepared a short
video to help orient you to the course. The video was originally designed
for my Chemistry 121 course, but most of the organization is the same
for CHE 122. Please
click here
to watch the video, and then read the items below to Change: Your username and password for Blackboard is your entire 9 digit student ID number. Not what it says in the video! Follow up information from the video can be found below:

| COMMUNICATIONS | |||||||||
The discussion board is an excellent way to post questions and answers in a way that benefits the entire class, so please use the discussion board as the most effective way to ask questions about the class and the chemistry content. Your hardworking classmates usually know the answer and can help you very quickly if you ask! The weekly discussion forum is an important component of our class that will be help us build a sense of community and support. Each week you will find a discussion topic that I expect you to respond to in a thoughtful, mature, respectful and intelligent manner. Quality counts in your discussion postings, and inappropriate comments will not be tolerated. Simple and non-thoughtful comments such as “Ditto”, and “I agree” will not receive credit. If you agree or disagree with for example a posted solution to a chemical calculation, you need to explain why you agree or disagree, etc. You may post as many times as you like, especially if someone posts after your initial comments and you want to say something further based on their conclusions, calculations or remarks. You will earn points for your participation each week, which I will post approximately every two weeks.
When you have a question, there is a good chance that one of your classmates is working online and can respond quickly. In addition to the Discussion Forum, you may email me within the Blackboard program. Please email me in Blackboard to ensure that your message will be returned promptly. Also, please realize that just like you, I have a family, hobbies, trips planned, etc., so it is unrealistic to expect me to provide immediate feedback 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For questions about the course content, the OWL program does provide immediate student-specific, question-specific feedback to you anytime of the day or night. The OWL program also has a “help” feature for technical questions or problems that you may experience while working in the program. If you send me an email during the Monday-Friday week, I will try to get back to you within 24 hours, but I cannot guarantee this. If you send me email over the weekend, I may not be able to respond until the following week. |

| LAB | |||||||||
| Laboratory experimentation is fundamental to science, and we will have the opportunity to conduct several experiments during this course. These experiments are designed to provide hands-on experiences that reinforce and complement topics from class. We will meet two times to conduct all of the experiments for the summer. You must come prepared to work with a partner on experiments for several hours. Descriptions of the experiments will be posted to the website before lab and you are expected to have read each description and be prepared to get started. Post-lab questions will be completed during lab and submitted to me before leaving. | |||||||||
