A Little about

Craig Grayson

I am a professional opera singer with over 20 years of performance experience. I am a bass and have sung with several regional opera companies around the U.S. in cities such as New York, Boston, Seattle, Santa Fe, Miami, Tulsa, and Denver. I have sung principal roles with companies like New Your Grand Opera, Dicapo Opera, Bronx Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Tulsa Opera, Opera Colorado, and Opera North. I have been an apprentice singer with the Santa Fe Opera, as well as a Young Artist with the Greater Miami Opera (now, Florida Grand Opera). Presently, I have often sung principal roles with Tacoma Opera, Bellevue Opera, and the Concert Opera of Seattle, and I am a member of the Regular Chorus with Seattle Opera (since 2003).

I have been teaching private voice for ten years including a year in association with Hunter College in New York City, and I am presently an Individual Music Instructor with North Seattle Community College, as well as the instructor for the Beginning Group Instruction (in voice) course (MUSC 119.01).  I have my Bachelors in voice from Florida State University, my Masters in voice from the New England Conservatory of Music and, today, I am a doctoral candidate in voice at the UW on academic leave to research and write my dissertation, a textbook on Russian lyric diction for singers.

I have trained with some of the finest teachers and coaches of voice and acting, including Roy Delp, Helen Hodam (deceased), Norma Newton, Julian Patrick, John Moriarty, Bern Herbolsheimer, Beth Kirchhoffer, Philip Kelsey, Philip Church, John Norris, and Katharine Sergava (deceased). I also have had special training in stage and film make-up and make-up effects, as well as audio recording engineering.
