Citing Your Sources
You will be documenting your research based on The Chicago Manual of Style. The Chicago citation style is also referred to as Turabian (a version for History researchers created by Kate Turabian).
The two primary style guides available in the reference section are:
- Chicago Manual of Style, 15 ed. [LB2369.U69 2003]
- A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, 6th ed. [LB2369.T8 1996]
Refer to the Chicago Style Guide handout (pdf) for preliminary citation information.
Online resources provide varying information on citing in Chicago/Turabian style. Check with your instructor re. details such as underlining vs. italicizing publication titles.
- Chicago Style Citation Quick Guide (chicagomanualofstyle.org)
- Citing Electronic Information in History Papers (University of Memphis)
- Documenting Sources, Chicago Style: History (dianehacker.com)
- KnightCite citation generator (Calvin College)
- Microform - how to cite (Yale University)
A friendly reminder: keep notes on your sources as you collect your information. This will save you trouble in the end!
