Websites

General

  • Wikipedia (Spanish) - while Wikipedia is not considered a college-level source, it is often a good place to start for general information. Wikimedia Commons is also an excellent source of images that are not copyright protected and available for anyone to use.
  • Limit your Google search to content from a specfic country by typing in site: and domain. For example, this search will retrieve results from Mexico:

You can also search the catalog by keyword, for instance salsa, to find materials in the SCCD library system. If the book is not in our library, you can request it to be sent here using the request item link to the right. You can pick up the book within 3 - 5 days at the library checkout desk.

Music CDs

Search the catalog using the Advanced Search by keyword (for instance salsa) and format (sound recording). You can request CDs from South and Central to be sent to North for pickup.

Articles

Library databases contain reference books and articles, as well as full text articles from newspapers, magazines, and scholarly journals. These materials have been purchased with your student fees. The content is generally not available free online. The content in NSCC Library databases is largely in English.

Search a database using simple terms. Enter each term in a separate search box, as in this JSTOR search:

Good periodical databases for your research:

  • Academic Search Premier - a general database with a range of articles
  • eLibrary Academic (contains Spanish-language materials) - articles, media, and online reference books such as the Britannica Spanish Concise Encyclopedia
  • Ethnic NewsWatch (contains Spanish-language materials) - news on ethnic topics
  • JSTOR (contains Spanish language-materials) - academic articles on a variety of topics
  • ProQuest - another general database

Good reference databases for your research:

  • CultureGrams – general country and culture information
  • Global Road Warrior – general country and culture information
  • History Resource Center - a variety of articles and historical artifacts
  • Literature Resource Center - articles about authors and their work

To access these databases from off campus, log in with your Student ID Number and last name.

Seattle Public Library Resources

Public libraries will have more Spanish-language materials on a variety of topics and in a variety of formats. Below are some examples from SPL.

To find other Spanish-language materials at SPL, click on the advanced catalog search page, enter your keyword(s), and select Spanish from the language limits.

Articles

On the Spanish Links Web page, Seattle Public Library lists additional online resources for your research. Selected databases:

  • Consulta - includes biographical and and other reference articles, maps, and more
  • Informe - current articles from Spanish periodicals
  • Press Display - includes Spanish-language newspapers

To access these databases outside the library, log in with your SPL Library card number and PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your telephone number).
