Art History of the Baroque Period through the Twentieth Century |
Art 253 11:00 - 11:50 am Daily Room RC1231a
INSTRUCTOR:
COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course is intended to be a rather detailed historical survey of art from 1600's to the present. The primary emphasis will be the painting, sculpture and architecture in the 19th and 20th centuries.
PROCEDURE: Slides will be shown in
formal lectures almost daily. Films, slides and discussion will
take place throughout the quarter during class times. It will be
very important to take good notes (use of a tape recorder is OK and
recommend for ESL students) because most of the material on which you
will be tested will comes
form the lectures. Students are responsible for knowing all material
covered
in any sessions.
Slides from the lectures will be available in
the library for two to three days after the lecture. A separate
organized notebook for this course and the formation of study groups
are highly recommended.
GRADES AND EXAMS: There will be 5 to 7
quizzes, a mid-term and a final exam. The exams will be a
combination of multiple choice, simple answer and essay.
A term research paper will be required.
(Specific requirements and guide to the subject matter is in the
packet.) Occasional critiques of local art exhibits may also be
required.
The final grade will be an average of the quizzes, the mid-term, the final exam and the term paper at 25% each. There is no make-ups on the quizzes, however, the lowest quiz grade or absence will be thrown out.
If you need to withdraw from this class for
any reason, please do so before the final day of the eighth week.
Students cannot receive a grade of "W"
(withdrawn) after the eighth week of classes.
COURSE ATTENDANCE: Very important but no gold star. In event of missing class, get notes from a fellow student. Be careful not to press your friendship on too many occasions.
