The horses on St Mark's Cathedral have had an interesting history. They were originally war booty from Greece then installed on the facade of the cathedral. When Napolean came to Venice his soldiers were welcomed then they started the process of removal. The horses were taken to Paris and installed on the Arch du Carousel. After Napoleon was defeated the country of France gave the horses back to the Cathedral. The originals are on display in a room within the cathedral while copies occupy the exterior position.
