RECOMMENDED TEXT: COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This will be a class in portfolio preparation and the art business. You will expected to: o build and design a resume
o understand how to enter and display your artwork
o design business cards and publicity pieces
o manage time for production and business operation
o price and market your work to galleries and shops o photograph art works,
o work and communicate effectively in groups

PROCEDURE:
This course will be lecture and performance based and will include lectures, demonstrations and critiques. The students will give critiques on visual and written materials produced for the course in a communal spirit and helpful manner. You will do hands on work in photographing your own work on copy stands, walls, etc. and design your own resume and presentation material.

GRADING:

COMPUTER ACCESS CARD
Having access to a computer for resume typing and designing is extremely important. Computers have pushed up the quality requirements on resumes and make it possible to create professional labels for slides and portfolio presentations. If you don't have access to a computer, get a Computer Access Card to use the college's computers.

MATERIALS
Youwill need to provide your own film (two rolls minimum) and portfolio (purchased or fabricated) with slide holders and dividers. Film : I recommends Fuji 100 (outdoor slide film) or Kodak Elite II 100, Ektachrome (outdoor slide film available at Costco), you must use an 80b blue filter with flood-lamps and come out with a quality product. Much of this will be discussed and debated as the course develops. Every artist does need (eventually) to purchase a good SLR 35mm camera for documentation. You can for the present share the camera we have.
