Aryani Kariano's "3 colored Lines." third of three in series 10" x 10" acrylic on board |
first of three in series 10" x 10" acrylic on board |
The design course work is divided into 2D Design (flat works) and 3D Design (sculptural works). The series is a required series for all art majors. It provides the basic visual language tools necessary in virtually all other art classes.
The 2D course, Art 101, concentrates on the elements of design including how they are used with composition theory, color theory with a strong technique component necessary for the execution of the works. Each problem builds on the complexity of the previous problem. We work with the traditional Goethe color chart as well as, Chevreul's Complements, Munsell's color map, Ostwald's color harmony's. A strong work ethic is required to meet the deadlines.
