The Art Department offers general education and studio courses which fulfill the Visual, Literacy, and Performing Arts requirements for the AA degree. The department also offers a more specialized AFA and CFA program; NSCC is one of the few colleges in the country to do so.
The Art Department of North Seattle Community College is dedicated to the visual arts. We offer many courses that develop the skills and understanding to create paintings, drawings or sculptural works. Our primary emphasis is on the Fine Arts rather than the more commercial art aspects of these skills. We train people with the understanding that these skills can be used for many different career goals including but not limited to: painting, sculpture, industrial design, graphic design, jewelry making, stage set design, architecture, interior design, clothing design, sign making and web page design. These courses may always be used to fulfill the personal goal of developing artistic skill for personal gratification. Toward these goals we have a two year planned study program toward the Associate of Fine Arts degree and the Certificate of Fine Arts.
The Associated Fine Arts degree and the Certificate of Fine Arts in the visual arts are unique certifying programs for community colleges in the state of Washington.
For more specific information see Joan Stuart Ross or Elroy Christenson or contact the instructor for the course of your interest.
