    David Harris

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Dave on September 9, 2008.  He was a valuable resource for innumerable students in both the art courses and broader through his courses in Visual Thinking and Art History of the Early Christian through the Renaissance.  He established the training program in both ceramics and sculpture as one of the first of only two art faculty when the campus opened in 1970.

For many years he worked first as part-time instructor and finally became a tenured faculty member about 1975. With his BFA and his MFA in sculpture from the University of Washington he developed the ceramics and sculpture program.   Dave retired from his dominate role in the ceramics and sculpture area in 2006 primarily  to care for his wife, Gerri.

Dave was well known in the area for giving the students the basics in art whether it be in drawing,  hand building and wheel thrown techniques. His students in sculpture learned  model building, mold making to finishing their fired clay sculptures. His Visual Thinking course proved to be one of the more popular courses on campus.

Since retiring Dave  continued to participate in the Art Department by teaching a drawing or ceramics class each quarter.   We will miss his daily jokes.

    The Courses Taught:

      Drawing , Art 111
      Ceramics , Art 221, 222, and 223
