        Art 282.01 Intermediate Jewelry Design

        This class explores the casting processes of jewelry making, and expands your fabrication skills from the beginning jewelry class.The quarter starts off with an introduction to tool making that allows you to create personalized stamping tools.Chain making and faceted stone settings will help you continue developing your fabrication skills, while you begin to learn the lost wax casting process. .

        Assignments

        1. Tool making Projects: Scribe and stamp. You must make a piece of jewelry that uses your stamp project.
        1. Linkage/Chainmaking Project: Must involve at least 10 solder joints, involving your fabrication skills.
        1. Casting Projects: cuttlebone, lost wax and pouring an ingot.
        1. Final Project: incorporate a faceted stone into a piece of jewelry, using your acquired skills.

        Grading

        Grades will be based on class attendance and participation, finished projects and the exploration of the materials.One should expect to spend 4 hours outside of class each week to complete all projects.

        Shop Regulations

        Do not work in shop alone.No tools should be taken home.

        Goggles must be worn while operating machinery and when using acids. Proper respirators must be worn while working with toxic chemicals.

        Proper hearing protections should be used when needed.
