"Transcendence", 1985
24" x 8.75" x 53"
painted and burned wood, laminated plate glass, resin and mixed media
"Transcendence focuses on the forces of destructiion and healing. The
glass used embodied wholeness and integrity, but is also fragil and in danger
of fracturing upon contact. The plate glass in the piece is visually
fractured and suggests destruction but is held in place by a burned wood
structure which supports the glass and lends integrity again to the broken
shards - things may be fractured and weak but simultaneously maintain their
wholeness and resilience."( statement of the artist)
The piece was first piece in the NSCC art collection and purchased with
funds from the Washington State Arts Commission under the Percent for Arts
Program in 1985. Amy Roberts Chamberlain has had her work shown in
Japan, New York among other major cities. Her work is represented in
many private and corporate collections. She's a past student of the
Pilchuck School of Glass.
