The Art Department of North Seattle Community College is dedicated to the visual arts. We offer many courses that develop the skills and understanding to create paintings, drawings or sculptural works. Our primary emphasis is on the Fine Arts rather than the more commercial art aspects of these skills. We train people with the understanding that these skills can be used by for many different career goals including but not limited to: painting, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor, industrial design, graphic design, jewelry making, stage set design, architecture, interior design, clothing design, sign making, etc. There are literally thousands of places to use artistic skill. These courses may always be used to fulfill the personal goal of developing artistic skill for personal gratification. Toward these goals we have two planned programs of study in the Associate of Fine Arts and the Certificate of Fine Arts. These are two year programs of study in the Visual Arts. These programs should be used as a systematic guide to skill building for a new career path or a transfer program into a university or four year art school. For more information the program contact any art faculty member or Elroy Christenson, Head of the Art Dept, (206) 528-4535. The description of the courses are best found in the college catalog. Other information on this web site are linked to the syllabii for each instructor's courses. They are more graphical in nature and consequently will take longer to load.
