Indonesia is a country heavily influenced by the trade with India and China. It is a deceptively large country in geography and in population. It is the fourth most populous country in the world behind China, India and the United States and also contains the largest number of Moslems in the world. Although the distance across Indonesia is about the same as across the United states approximately 80% is water and about 80% of the population lives on the island of Java. Of the some 15,000 islands in the Indonesian archipelego Bali is the Hindu dominated culture.
Indonesia is quite rich in natural resources because of the volcanic birth of the islands. It has consequently many area that are presently being tapped for their geothermal activity and at the same time it is drilling into the many oil reserves. It also has some of the richest deposits of copper and gold. The Freeport mine on Irian Jaya (the west end of the Island of New Guinea) is said to be the world's largest gold mine but its principal product is as the world's third largest copper mine.
I've included here a list of the photos and drawing that give an idea of some of my favorite parts of Indonesia.
