Labs

There will be 7 labs during the quarter, we will meet in the room AS1527 on Tu 10:50A-1:00P. Labs are worth 20% of your grade, you are required to read the lab document for each lab prior to the class on Tuesday. We will have clicker questions prior to the lab on Tuesday, please come prepared to the lab.

After completion of the lab you are required to write a lab report which is going to be graded. If you missed lab, report for the lab missed is not going to be accepted. Lab groups are going to consist of not more then 3 people. Assignment of the lab partners is going to be upon decision of the instructor

Schedule (tentative)

For discussion on the error analysis please see Lab 1

  • lab1 is on Thursday, July 2, lab report is due following Thursday 10.50 beginning of the class.
  • lab2 is on Thursday, July 9, lab report is due following Thursday 10.50 beginning of the class.
  • fancart video for the Lab2.
  • lab3 projectile motion is on Thursday, July 16, lab report is due following Thursday 10.50 beginning of the class.
  • lab7 Work energy theorem and springs is on Tuesday, August 4, lab report is due following Thursday 10.50 beginning of the class.
  • lab8 Ballistic pendulum is on Thursday, August 13, lab report is due following Thursday 10.50 beginning of the class.

  • Title
    • includes your name Lab partners
  • Abstract
    • couple of paragraphs what the lab is about
  • Introduction which includes following sections:
    • Summary of your experiments
    • description of equipment used
    • Theory (equations with the description of each parameter) + error calculation formulas
  • Analysis
    • Table with measurements
    • Results and discussion of the results

There are many descriptions on how to write a lab report on the web, I provided the skeleton and sections I would like to see Your lab report should be submitted in class by the beginning of class on Thursday. You can work in groups on the lab reports, but submitted work should be your own work each student has to submitted his own version of the report, closely similar reports are not going to be accepted.
