Week 6: Modern Fantasy
Instructions for Weekly Online Activities/Assignments

ENGL 231: JC Clapp (North Seattle Community College)

Due no later than Thursday, November 5th, 2009 by 11:00 p.m. PST:  (You're getting a light week since I've been working you pretty hard!)  Ask at least five adults to list their five favorite children's books as well as comment on why they are favorites.  Write down their answers and then look up the bibliographic information for the books they mentioned.  Then, go through the books and determine how many of them could be categorized as modern fantasy.  Post your findings.  What books were mentioned multiple times? What reasons were given over and over for why a book was a favorite? Title your post with the title of the book that your respondents mentioned most often.

Due no later than Monday, November 9th, 2009 by 11:00 p.m. PST:  Read through your peer's posts and see how many common books there are on the various lists.  Are there particular titles that emerge as "classics"?  What makes these particular books classics?  As a whole, how often were modern fantasies listed as a favorite?  Why might that be? Respond to at least two peer's posts.
