IT 111 Final Web Site Project
This assignment is due by 11:59pm on Thursday, December 17 and is worth a total of 150 points (includes Parts 1 - 3 plus the completed web site). It represents 25% of your final grade. If you want feedback from me on your project, you must submit it by Monday, December 14 by 11:59pm. If you submit it after December 14, you won't have an opportunity to get my feedback.

WARNING: Please hand code all the web pages required in this assignment. Don't use any web authoring software like Dreamweaver, FrontPage, Netscape Composer, Word, etc. If I can tell that you've used web authoring software, you'll receive a zero for the project.
Instructions
- Develop a web site with a minimum of four interlinked pages on a topic of your choice that has been approved by me. Tell me the topic you've chosen by Monday, October 19.
- Here are some topic ideas and guidelines:
- Create a web site for a non-profit organization (e.g., community group, amateur sports team, local charity, etc.).
- Create a web site for an imaginary small business.
- Create a portfolio web site that you could use to promote yourself to a prospective employer.
- Since our web server is funded by the State, you may not create a web site that promotes an existing business, a religious organization or belief, a political cause, or any illegal activity.
- Do not use photos, images, text, etc. from other web sites unless you have gotten permission from the webmaster or copyright holder. You risk getting a zero for your final project if you use other people's work in your project without getting permission.
- Here are some final projects from previous quarters: In-4-Lunch.com, Residential Energy Services, Photography by Gabriela, Green Fern Café, DJ Schmidi, Blue Chrome Games , Camp Leha, and Portfolio (will open in a new browser window).
- Your pages must include examples of the following:
- CSS (or XHTML tables) used for layout and organization of page content (if used, tables must include descriptive titles and summaries for accessibility).
- a xhtml form with at least 3 different types of form elements (e.g., text box, textarea, submit, etc.) used to gather information from your target audience. Use the URL on page 366 when coding the action attribute in your form.
- an external style sheet for all the text and page formatting - no font tags or bgcolor, link, text, vlink, alink, attributes used, please!
- application of the design principles covered in Chapter 5.
- at least 4 images that have been optimized for improved web display - please use copyright free images only on your site and include the width and height attribute with accurate values in your XHTML code.
- images should conform to the guidelines found in Chapter 4 (page 146 - 147). You can use non-web safe colors but make sure the colors on your pages look the same in both Internet Explorer and Firefox (or Safari) and on a Mac and Windows computer.
- email link on each page.
- descriptive title on each page (e.g., XYZ Company Home, Contact XYZ Company, XYZ Company Services, etc.). Do not include your last name or last four digits from your SID in the titles.
- copyright or updated date on each page.
- well designed navigation and no broken links (tip: use the W3C Link Checker to find broken links).
- correct spelling and grammar (tip: after copying your pages to the compass server, copy and paste the text into Word to more easily see the typos and misspelled words).
- Copy all the necessary files to your compass web account.
- Use the W3C Mark Up Validator to validate all of the pages. This should be done after the pages are online.
- Validate your CSS by using the W3C CSS Validator.
- Send me an email message with a link to your completed web site by December 17.
- Here is a copy of the grading sheet I will use. I encourage you to print it and grade your own project.
