world. This documentary is an indictment of the corporate irresponsibility of
various Indian textile companies who expose their workers to dangerous
chemicals, that have long since been banned in the developed world, and pollute
their surrounding environments. The growing of cotton in northern India for
towels and sheets use pesticides are to save crops, however, these pesticides
are known to cause cancer and have long been banned throughout the West. In
Panipat, a leading textile producing center, there are open tanks of fuming
chlorine gas, banned in Europe for twenty years. Kapoor Industries, a modern

cass., 60 min.
In August 1914, the peoples of Europe
were swept into the first of the wars that would make this century the
bloodiest ever. Seventy million soldiers from more than twenty countries marched
off enthusiastically to do their duty. In Killing Fields, soldiers from all
sides remember the trenches and the tactics--and the terrible nature and scale
of the slaughter that shattered the old world order. In the end, four empires
collapsed and nine million gave their lives. Some would become ardent pacifists
while others were determined to seek retribution--and many would find themselves
fighting another war only two decades later. The people remember: conscription,
machine guns and mustard gas, aerial bombing, the trenches, Battles of Verdun
and the Somme
, conscientious objectors, military justice, American participation, armistice.
