Chapter New Zealand, Part I: These show our first days in Christchurch and the beginning of our Banks Penninsula hike.
Chapter New Zealand, Part II: The last part of our hike and Akaroa. Chapter 6: My past postings showed some of the things that I have enjoyed seeing and doing since I have been here. Some of you may have begun to wonder how I justify being here. Or as the subject line of an email from my brother expressed it so subtly, "DO YOU EVER WORK?" Yes, there are things to be built and repaired here as well as at home. It just seems a lot more fun here. Yesterday morning we went out to the job site and had penguin tracks all over the snow. That won't happen at home and it does make you smile. I am getting things done, but no, it doesn't feel like I "work" here. So this time you get to see pictures of some of the things I am doing to earn my keep. --- Tom
Chapter 5: South Pole. The pictures this time are from my short trip to the Pole. I left the Friday after your Thanksgiving which was a work day for us. We were scheduled to have Saturday off asThanksgiving Day, which gave these kids their first two day weekend this season. So I worked my holiday day off just to go down there. I'm glad I did it, don't think I'll do it again. --- Tom
Chapter 4: Cape Evans. The only thing out there is the hut that Captain R.F.Scott built in 1910. The building is still there and rather well preserved. The Scott expedition wintered at Cape Evans and left in search of the South Pole in October 1911. Scott did reach the Pole, but Amundsen's Norwegian party had already been there. The five final members of the Scott group did not survive the return trip. --Tom
Chapter 3: Happy Campers
Chapter 2: This time I'll just show you around McMurdo. It doesn't take long or too many pictures, it is a small town. A very busy place, we have no unemployment, no pollution, no crime and no traffic lights. We have the finest restaurant on the continent and everyone still shows up for Sunday brunch with "hat hair".

This is Mt.
Erebus, our local active volcano, not steaming too much at this time. It's
12,400 some feet and twenty miles from town (McMurdo).
Google it and you can see molten lava eruptions from the crater cam.
