This course is designed to help students understand the natural world in which they live. We will take an ecosystem approach to studying the natural world and in each ecosystem we will study the organisms and their relationships to get a sense of what makes this place tick. A major part of this class is to SLOW DOWN this fast paced life. It is in the slowing down that the natural world reveals itself to you. Success in this class requires you to slow down, look for details, and describe them to me (and your fellow students). The most successful students in this class, take their time, and describe all the details they notice. I look forward to spending the quarter with you all. Note that this website is always under construction! Please email me if you have questions (plortz@sccd.ctc.edu). The on-campus Orientation is scheduled for Monday, April 2nd 6:00-6:50 pm, in Room IB 3327. If you have to miss the on-campus Orientation Session, here are the posted "Orientation Notes". You should be very familiar with these for success in the class. This course is divided into ecosystem units. We will spend 2-3 weeks in each ecosystem. Here are the ecosystems we will focus on over the quarter (in order):
