Important Information: Fall 2006 is the first quarter
students will be using First Class software to perform course
discussions. Some discussion pages may still contain directions
using the old class discussion website. Thank you in advance for
your patience while the HEA150 web pages are slowly updated
during this transition.
Students will need to use First Class software to participate
in the discussions. Students have already paid for the
technology upon enrollment and subsequently need to download the
software to their computers. Any student not having his or her
own compute will most likely need to use the web version of
First Class, which does not have as many features as the actual
software. In the past some First Class users with certain
firewall protection have experienced difficulties with the
software. If this is the case for you, please consider using the
web version. Before attempting to download the First Class
software to your computer or accessing the web version of First
Class, please read the tutorial
at the North Seattle Community College Distance Learning
website, which walks the learner through installing the
software, becoming familiar with what the First Class 'desktop'
looks like, creating and replying to email messages.
Discussion grading: As with each discussion, five
points are awarded for answering all discussion questions by the
due date, and five points are awarded for posting the requested
number of responses to others by the due date. Weekly answers to
all discussion questions are due by the end of each Friday,
while two replies to other students are due by the end of each
Monday.
NOTE: With the exception of the first week, all
discussion sessions require outside reading, as described on
the weekly "discussion" links on the Lesson
page.
Directions for posting answers: Once the First Class
software is available on the desktop, double-click on the
"First Class" icon. The student should see a few icons
upon opening the software, such as "mail" and the
conference "HEA150 A672," or simply "A672."
Double click on the A672 icon. You should then view three
threads, "HEA150 Week 1 Group A, " "HEA150 Week 1
Group B," "HEA150 Week 1 Group C." Each student
will be assigned to a group, Group A, B, or C via an instructor
email. Click on the appropriate group. Click on all each of the
three threads, "Week 1, Question #1," "Week 1,
Question #2," "Week 1, Question #3" to read and
reply to the respective questions for this week. The questions
are written below for your information.
